Eiko was raised by his father, Himura Shio, since he was born and some of his best memories from his childhood was being with his father. However, Eiko lived in feared of his mother, Shinma Oni. Even though Shinma had finally received a male heir , Himura was very protective of Eiko and he never left Eiko alone with his mother. Himura would tell Eiko stories about Rokugan, his Rokugani heritage, and his other family- Umi and Suki. Himura promised they would be united again and run away to Rokugan to live happily ever after. The time came when Eiko was 8, but Himura and Eiko's sister, Reya, were discovered by Shinma... Himura wasted no time to get Eiko to safety and told Eiko to tell his wife, Suki, and Umi to go to Rokugan without him. Reluctantly, Eiko ran away and showed up of the Shio's doorstep in the pouring rain... he was immediately greeted with a big bear hug from his half-brother Umi and the two bonded instanteously. Eiko sadly delivered the message to Suki and to his surprise she kept a smile on her face as they fled the city of Zhentil Keep. The three traveled to Rokugan and began their new life. Although, Eiko was the younger brother, he was the one trying to kept Umi out of trouble, but he always get involved and they were many occasions in which the two showed up on their mother's doorstep, covered in dirt, trash, mud, and grass. Two years passed in Rokugan when Eiko realized that Suki was struggled to support both of them, she spent the entire day working and only came home to sleep. Eiko could not bare to see her suffering and told her that he was going to join the monastery. Suki tried to talked him out of it, but with no success. Umi took the news hard and Eiko thought he would never see him again... but to his surprise, Umi crashed landed on one of his waterfall mediation sessions with Lia only a week after his departure and every week after that. Every week, Eiko had to do his best to hide the fact that he looked forward to his brother's visits. But now, 10 years later after joing the monastery, his training is complete and he will be traveling to Faerun with Umi, he will no longer have to hide the joy he feels whenever he is around Umi.
